Meet the Pack: Rufus
Rufus and his late littermate, Roxy, were our first labradoodles. They came to us during Hurricane Rita in 2005, as their breeders evacuated Orange, Texas. At only a few weeks old, Rufus, Roxy, their littermates, 14 other puppies and 56 dogs rolled up to our ranch outside of San Antonio, Texas. The next several months saw both their growth and a barn full of dogs.
Rufus (and his sister Roxy) have lived ranch, city and beach life. From chasing and bringing down deer as a pack, to avoiding crashing waves to being guard dogs on quiet streets, these two done and seen it all.
Sadly, Rufus’s sister Roxy left us in 2016 after a vibrant 11 years. We will always miss the way these two played hide and seek, as well as the days Roxy lazed the days away on a pool float.
Rufus, however, is aging with great dignity. He is a sweet, loyal dog who can only be characterized as a “go-with-the-flow” kind of guy. His days are spent at the feet of John, his favorite master, or snuggled up with Rowdy, his adoring companion. But come brisk fall and winter weather, one might mistake Rufus for a puppy, with his wildly wagging tail and romps around the yard.
