frequently asked questions

What are "australian labradoodles?" How are they different from labradoodles?

In the early days, the Australian Labradoodle was simply a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle.  Dogs from this cross typically were bred to each other over future generations, whereby the Australian dogs are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles.

Then, in the late 1980's, Tegan Park and Rutland Manor, the two founders of the Australian Labradoodle as we know it today, began carefully infusing several other breeds into early generations of their Lab/Poodle crosses, to improve temperament, coat, conformation, and size.  The infused breeds include Irish Water Spaniel as well as the American and English Cocker Spaniel.  The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition.

Today, Australian Labradoodles are dogs with lush coats that are more reliably low to non-shedding and allergy friendly than other types of Labradoodles such as a first generation Lab/Poodle crosses, or first generation crosses bred back to Poodles. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry.

The Australian Labradoodle should be athletic and graceful, yet compact with substance and medium boning.  Joyful and energetic when free, soft and quiet when handled.  They should approach people in a happy friendly manner with eye to eye contact.  Keen to learn and easy to train.  They have a free flowing wavy or curly coat that does not shed and is possibly non-allergenic.

Do Australian Labradoodles Shed?

The Australian labradoodle is not a totally standardized breed, so we cannot guarantee that your puppy will absolutely not shed. However, in our experience, our miniature Australian Labradoodles shed minimally, if at all.

Are australian labradoodles hypoallergenic?

Again, because Australian labradoodles are not yet a standardized breed, we cannot guarantee that your puppy will be hypoallergenic. But, in our experience, they are great for families with mild allergies.

What tests have your breeder dogs received?

Our dogs have received tests for the health of their eyes, ears and joints.

Are you breeding dogs certified?

Yes, we meet the ALCA Requirements

how do you define your sizes?

We can only estimate a puppy's size at 8 weeks, and therefore do not make any guarantees about their full-grown size. However, we consider minis to be 25lb or less and mediums to be 25lb-40lb. We do not breed standard sized labradoodles.

When can we take our puppy home?

Puppies are ready to go home at eight weeks. However, we ask that you take the necessary precautions in order to protect your puppy's health by not visiting places where unfamiliar dogs frequent.

DO YOU DELIVER PUPPIES?

We understand that many prospective owners live outside of Texas (and that Texas is quite a large state), so delivery to your local airport can be arranged for an extra fee (cost of tickets plus $250) depending on availability. Delivery is scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Under no circumstances will we ship our miniature Australian Labradoodles.

CAN WE VIST OUR PUPPY IN THE MEANTIME?

Our dogs' and puppies' health is of the utmost importance to us so we take every precaution to protect it. Therefore, we do not allow visits to our kennel. But, we will post pictures of your puppy weekly so you can keep up with their growth!
